Joely Fisher, coming off the canceled “Ellen,” has inked for a major feature role opposite Matthew Broderick in “The Real Inspector Gadget” for Walt Disney Pictures.
Fisher will play Brenda, the surgeon who rebuilds Broderick’s Gadget from his accident and turns him into the Real Inspector Gadget so that he can defeat the villain Claw (Rupert Everett). Along the way, she and Gadget fall in love.
Pic, directed by David Kellogg, is slated to start lensing July 20 in L.A.
Jordan Kerner of Avnet/Kerner, Andy Heyward of Dic and Roger Birnbaum of Caravan are producing.
Jon Avnet and Aaron Meyerson are exec producers.
Pic is based on the Dic animated series about the bumbling detective, whose voice was created by Don Adams. Sources said the producers are hoping to include Adams in a cameo or small role.
Though she’s known for her role on “Ellen” as Ellen’s best friend, Fisher has a string of feature credits, including HBO Premiere pic “Perfect Lady,” the indie pic “Let’s Ruin Dad’s Day and studio films “Mixed Nuts,” “The Mask” and “I’ll Do Anything.”
Fisher’s deal was brokered by Chuck James and Ken Kaplan of the Gersh Agency. Krost/Chapin Management also repped the thesp.
