DreamWorks has put the Dean Parisot-helmed old-timer heist pic “The Crew” into turnaround over casting differences, sources said Tuesday.
Pic now reverts back to Touchstone Pictures without Parisot as director.
Produced by Barry Josephson and Barry Sonnenfeld, pic had been set to go into production in the fall.
Though the leads had not been set, DreamWorks had hoped to cast major stars like Dustin Hoffman and Danny DeVito.
Sources said Sonnenfeld/Josephson and helmer Parisot were looking to cast lesser-known actors to play the group of retired wiseguys who move to Florida and pull off one final scam.
DreamWorks had picked up the project in turnaround from Touchstone, which had been unwilling to make the pic with Parisot, who helmed “Home Fries.”
Insiders said Sonnenfeld and Josephson are looking to set the project up at another studio or at Touchstone with another director.
