Commercials helmer Tom Dey has been tapped to direct Universal’s spy spoof “00-Soul,” starring Chris Tucker.
Tucker, Robert Simonds and screenwriter Antwone Fisher are the producers.
Pic is an action-comedy about “super-spy” William Soul (Tucker), who goes after a rogue agent now in the employ of an international terrorist with plans to bring down the U.S. government.
Singer Mariah Carey also is set to make her acting debut on the project, which is slated to begin production in October.
Other gig gone
Dey had previously been attached to direct Columbia’s “Bad Boys II,” the sequel to the 1995 film that launched helmer Michael Bay. No longer attached to that project, Dey now has a pay-or-play deal to make “00-Soul” his feature debut.
Dey, who is represented by the William Morris Agency, has shot numerous domestic and European TV spots, including ones for Nikon, the Gap, Lee jeans and Oil of Olay.
