Kieran Culkin, Heavy D and Delroy Lindo have joined the cast of Miramax Films’ “The Cider House Rules,” which began shooting Monday in New England.
Tobey Maguire, Paul Rudd, Kathy Baker, Michael Caine, Kate Nelligan and Charlize Theron had already inked to star in the pic.
Maguire (“Ice Storm”) leads the film as Homer Wells, a young man who leaves the orphanage where he has grown up, falls hopelessly in love, and comes to realize that his future is inescapably connected with his past.
Lasse Hallstrom (“What’s Eating Gilbert Grape”) is helming “Rules” from a screenplay by John Irving based on his novel. FilmColony’s Richard Gladstein is producing.
Two other Irving novels, “The World According to Garp” and “The Hotel New Hampshire,” were previously turned into features.
Miramax senior VP of production Bobby Cohen is overseeing the pic for Miramax. Cary Meadow, senior VP of business and legal affairs, negotiated the talent deals for the studio.
