X marks spot for Lasoff

Oscar-winning f/x maven joins house

Academy Award-winning digital-effects artists Mark Lasoff has joined Santa Monica-based Station X Studios as a special visual effects supervisor for both features and commercials.

Lasoff, who was part of the team that received an Oscar last year for visual effects on James Cameron’s “Titanic,” comes to Station X from Digital Domain, where he’d worked since 1993. He also worked at Metrolight Studios, where he developed software tools for use in creating digital effects.

“Mark has supervised epic effects projects and has an in-depth working knowledge of managing high-volume production pipelines for feature films and television,” said Grant Boucher, CEO of Station X. “When combined with Station X’s commitment to creating highly directable photo-real CGI, I believe his experience adds to our company’s ability to credibly manage even the largest of visual-effects projects.”

Features that Lasoff has worked on include “Apollo 13,” “Interview with the Vampire,” “Last Action Hero,” “In the Line of Fire” and “Total Recall.” He also worked in television, where he received Emmy and Golden Lion awards.
