Weiswasser inks with D.C. law firm

Lands on feet after ankling Americast

NEW YORK — Steve Weiswasser, who resigned three weeks ago as president and CEO of Americast, the joint venture set up by Walt Disney and four telephone companies, has signed on with the Washington, D.C., law firm of Covington & Burling as an attorney.

“The telecommunications industry is undergoing massive reorganization and restructuring, and Covington & Burling is well-positioned to work in these areas,” Weiswasser said.

Covington & Burling represents a number of companies in media and telecommunications, including CBS, the Washington Post and Chronicle Publishing. The firm employs more than 325 lawyers practicing in Washington, London and Brussels.

Before Weiswasser joined Americast in 1995, he was a senior VP at Capital Cities/ABC for nine years, in that period serving as general counsel (1986-91), then shifting his responsibilities to the TV network and to ABC News (1991-93) and then to the ABC multimedia group (1993-95).
