Lions Gate Entertainment has named veteran film producer and industry exec John Veitch co-chairman of LG Pictures, a division of the Canadian entertainment conglomerate that owns film production co-venture Mandalay Pictures.
Veitch will work with Peter Strauss, recently installed as president of LGE, who’ll also serve as co-chair of LG Pictures. The pair of execs will oversee U.S. feature film development and production activities for the company.
LG Pictures is one of the owners of Mandalay Pictures, the co-venture between Lions Gate and Peter Guber, Paul Schaeffer and Adam Platnick.
Veitch spent 27 years at Columbia, the last several as president of worldwide production, overseeing a total of some 500 films. Following his departure from Col-Tristar, he founded and ran his own production company, and produced such films as “Fast Forward,” “Suspect,” “Bram Stoker’s Dracula,” “Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein” and “Fly Away Home.”
