ROME — Longtime MTV marketing and programming exec Janet Scardino has been named VP and managing director of the Disney Channel-Italy, the latest foreign offshoot of the web, to be launched in the fall.
Scardino will take up the new position, based in Milan, on March 23. For the past year, she has been senior VP international sales and co-production for independent animation production company and children’s programming distributor Sunbow Entertainment.
Prior to that, Scardino worked with MTV for 10 years. She became director for MTV international programming in 1991 and was responsible for the launch of locally tailored MTV webs in Asia, Japan and Latin America.
The Disney Channel-Italy will be available on Telepiu’s D+ digital bouquet and will broadcast original and acquired Italian and European programming alongside Disney product.
The Italian web is the seventh country-specific Disney Channel to be established, following those in Taiwan, the U.K., Australia, Malaysia, France and the Middle East.
