Oliver Hopps, a former Hollywood publicist, died Feb. 9 of natural causes in the Northern California town of Paradise. He was 90.Hopps began his career in the publicity department at the Samuel Goldwyn Studios in 1934. In 1942, he moved over to Fox’s publicity department. In 1948, Hopps joined J. Walter Thompson Company and became responsible for maintaining the Lux Soap account slogan, “Nine out of Ten Stars Use Lux.” He retired in 1970. Hopps is survived by his two sons, Tony and Norman, eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
