Murdoch rounds third

Meets with Selig on $350 mil acquisition of L.A. Dodgers

Rupert Murdoch’s ownership of the Los Angeles Dodgers moved a step closer to reality Thursday when the News Corp. chairman headed a Fox Sports delegation that met with acting Major League Baseball commissioner Bud Selig to discuss final points of the acquisition and to set up a vote among owners when they meet in March.

The Thursday discussion, which took place on the Fox lot in West L.A., found Selig accompanied by National League prexy Len Coleman and Atlanta Braves chairman Bill Bartholomay, who heads up baseball’s ownership committee. Fox TV chairman Chase Carey also attended.

Under the agreement inked Sept. 4, Peter O’Malley and his family are selling the Dodgers to Murdoch for $350 million. Team owners are expected to approve the deal when they gather March 17 in St. Petersburg, Fla.
