Parachute Publishing has inked a deal securing children’s book rights to Fox Kids Network’s top-rated animated television series, “Life With Louie,” created by and starring comedian Louie Anderson.

Parachute execs also have signed with HarperCollins imprint HarperActive to distribute its “Life With Louie” books, starting in August.

Licensing and merchandising are being handled by Saban Entertainment.

“With more than 6 million viewers and an on-air commitment from Fox Kids, ‘Life With Louie’ has an enormous pre-sold audience and a programming concept kids can identify with,” Parachute Properties CEO Joan Waricha told Daily Variety.

Launched on Fox Kids in 1994, “Life With Louie” is the No. 1 animated strip (Monday to Thursday 4:30 to 5 p.m.) with kids aged 2-11 and 6-11, and is part of the net’s FCC-friendly educational programming.

The book series will launch with chapter books based on TV episodes, while additional formats such as scrapbooks, postcard books and joke books are in development.

The “Life With Louie” deal marks the second affiliation between Parachute and Saban, which first teamed up to produce the 12-book series based on the “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.”
