NATPE kicks off Anifx Expo

The National Assn. of Television Programming Execs debuted its Anifx Expo at the Los Angeles Convention Center on Thursday.

Geared toward two disparate constituencies — the animation and visual effects industries — the show was launched with modest expectations. NATPE has projected a turnout of 2,000 attendees by the time the show wraps on Sunday. As of Thursday morning, according to a NAPTE spokeswoman, about 1,400 people had registered.

The confab got under way with a preview of animated series slated for the fall skeds on various nets. Reps of Cartoon Network, Comedy Central, Disney, Fox Kids Network, Kids WB, MTV Animation, Nickelodeon and PBS were on hand to demo product.

More than 85 exhibitors are on hand. NATPE said it plans to host the show annually.
