NATAS smiles on Fridrich

NEW YORK — The first Sir Peter Ustinov Television Scriptwriting Award has been given to Russia’s Tanya Fridrich for her script “Smile of the King.”

The award, organized by the Intl. Council of NATAS Foundation, aims to tap into the international talent pool of young writers. Applicants must be under 26 and from outside the U.S.

Fridrich, a 22-year-old St. Petersburg-based journalist who covers economics, banking and finance, will be presented with her award — a check for $5,000 —at the 25th anni Intl. Emmy Awards Gala Nov. 24 in New York.
