NEW YORK — Darryl (Chill) Mitchell, who was last seen as the lunch-counter owner on NBC’s “The John Larroquette Show,” has been signed to star in the network’s new Kirstie Alley sitcom, “Veronica’s Closet.”
He’ll play a harried marketing executive who works for Veronica (Alley), a woman who sets up an upscale lingerie company after dumping her longtime philandering husband. Mitchell joins a cast that includes Kathy Najimy, Wallace Langham, Dan Cortese and Christopher McDonald. The show is by the “Friends” team of Kevin Bright, David Crane and Marta Kauffman at Warner Bros. Television.
Mitchell got the “Larroquette” job after making his breakthrough as a member of the rap trio Groove B. Chill. He has co-starred in the films “House Party,” “Sgt. Bilko,” “Thin Line Between Love and Hate” and HBO’s “Angel in Harlem,” which marked Eriq LaSalle’s directorial debut. Mitchell just finished a co-starring role in the Drew Barrymore-Jake Busey film “Home Fries,” and will co-star with Alley in the telepic “Toothless.”
Mitchell is repped by William Morris’s Jenny Delany and managed by Brian Medavoy.
