KCBS goes for the Golden

It will be officially announced today that the news department at KCBS — which in November created a firestorm with its investigative series about unsanitary conditions in L.A. County restaurants — has won at least 13 Golden Mike Awards, far more than any other local TV station.

Considering that KCBS also is a finalist in the best 30-minute and daytime newscast categories, the station’s news operation could wind up taking home 15 honors in the 31 total Golden Mike categories after garnering just seven statuettes last year (also topping the list).

KCBS’ wins included trophies for news reporting, investigative reporting, live news coverage, hard news reporting, light news series, serious feature reporting, entertainment and sports news reporting, individual writing and videotape editing.

The Golden Mikes will be handed out in a ceremony Jan. 31 at the Beverly Hilton.
