Fox Sports West 2, the spinoff regional sports channel that has finally landed carriage on a majority of local cable systems after months of struggle, is hoping to lock up deals in the next several weeks with the three remaining major holdouts: Century, Time Warner and Comcast.
The trio of operators comprise about 900,000 subs between them in the FSW2 distribution area. The channel, which carries Dodgers baseball, Clippers basketball and Mighty Ducks hockey, will hit the 2.1 million subscriber penetration mark on Sept. 1.
In the wake of a deal last month in which Comcast Sports Net of Philadelphia agreed to become a Fox Sports Net affiliate, and Time Warner’s agreement with Fox News Channel for carriage of the channel in New York, FSW2 has renewed hope that it, too, can ink pacts to run on Time Warner and Comcast.
While talks between Century Cable and Fox Sports West 2 are said to be ongoing, it’s uncertain if and when the two will come to terms.
