Feb. talk set for DBS LAX talk

The executives who control the direct broadcast satellite industry will gather Feb. 4 at the Westin Hotel at LAX for a daylong (8 a.m. to 5 p.m.) conference titled “DBS – The Five Burning Questions.”

Those burning questions will be identified and addressed by confirmed panelists who include DirecTV prexy Eddy Hartenstein, EchoStar chairman and CEO Charlie Ergen, Primestar chairman and CEO Jim Gray, USSB prexy and CEO Stanley Hubbard, ASkyB chairman Preston Padden, TCI Satellite Entertainment prexy Gary Howard and SkyMCI prexy and COO Susan Mayer.

Serving as keynote speakers are Michael Armstrong, chairman and CEO of Hughes Electronics Corp.; Don Gips, international bureau chief for the FCC; and John Cooke, executive VP/corporate affairs, the Walt Disney Co.

Among the topics scheduled to be addressed are consumer demand, potential DBS market size and expected growth, and how the competition is playing out among the key and fledgling industry players.

The DBS research and analysis firm the Carmel Group is organizing the conference.
