NEW ORLEANS — Former Coral Pictures prexy German Perez Nahim has rounded up a team of Venezuelan TV veterans to form SkyQuest Television, which is prepping a telenovela for a March shoot.
Perez Nahim, who ankled Coral last month after 14 years with the distribbery’s parent company, RCTV, says SkyQuest aims to combine melodramatic traditions with a new approach to the novela.
“The telenovela has to evolve. Scenes in traditional novelas are too long, the photography is often flat, the way people dress should be more fashionable,” Perez Nahim said.
To operate on a profit-sharing basis — perhaps unprecedented in novela production — SkyQuest boasts an impressive team of ex-RCTV execs, talent and technicians. These include Alberto Giarroco and Jose Mendez, the producers behind export fave “Kassandra” and other hits.
Titled “Kalusa,” the 100-episode soap is being pre-sold internationally to cover all costs, and Perez Nahim says the project is 70% covered to date.
SkyQuest aims to produce three novelas every two years. It also is prepping a tabloid health magazine — a per-sonal project of Perez Nahim’s — which should go before cameras in June.
