Thalia Assuras, a staffer with ABC News since 1993 and anchor of the latenight/early morning “World News Now” and “World News This Morning” broadcasts, is defecting to the new Westinghouse/CBS cable channel Eye on People that is scheduled to launch March 31.
Assuras will co-anchor the live weeknight news hour “Today’s People,” and also serve as a correspondent for CBS News. Her co-anchor on “Today’s People” is expected to be announced shortly.
CBS News exec VP Jonathan Klein said, “There is no one on television like Thalia. She projects authority, wit and an intelligent playfulness. Her smart, irreverent style will be the perfect voice for ‘Today’s People.’ ”
Assuras is the second high-profile ABC News personality to leave for cable in the past few months, after ABC’s veteran White House correspondent Brit Hume, who left late last year to take over as managing editor of the fledgling Fox News Channel.
