‘YOURS,’ ‘ARSENIO’ BOWS FIRM

March midseason madness continued as CBS’ premiere of the comedy “Temporarily Yours” gave the web a lift while ABC’s “Arsenio” posted decent numbers.

For Wednesday night, ABC won in households with a 9.9 rating and 17 share, according to Nielsen. Despite the heavy competition from new midseason shows, Fox managed to squeeze out a second-place finish in households with an 8.6/14 from “Beverly Hills, 90210” and “Party of Five” as well as a win in adults 18-49. NBC posted an 8.3/14 while CBS averaged a 7.8/13 and the WB finished with a 3.3/5.

“Temporarily Yours” averaged an 8.4/14 in its 8:30 p.m. debut. That’s a 9% improvement over the timeslot average for this season’s “Pearl.” In adults 18-49, the new sitcom averaged a 4.2, up 20% from the time period’s average, third overall. “Temporarily Yours” also held its demo lead-in from “The Nanny.”

ABC’s “Arsenio” averaged a 10.6/17 in households in the 9:30 p.m. slot, about what the time period had been averaging with “Ellen,” but off 5% from its “Drew Carey” lead-in of 11.7/18. While “Arsenio” won in the 18-49 and 25-54 demos, its numbers were also off from “Drew Carey.” Although the comedy was the highest-rated new comedy in adults 18-49 and total viewers, considering its strong lead-in and the pre-show publicity, the web may have been anticipating higher numbers.

NBC’s “Just Shoot Me” had its time period premiere on Wednesday in the 9:30 slot and averaged an 8.2/13. That is better than “Men Behaving Badly’s” 7.8 rating and 12 share in that time period, and improved upon the “Wings” lead-in of 7.5/12. It was also “Wings’ ” time period premiere, and its 7.5/12 was about even with what “NewsRadio” had been averaging.

On the drama front, CBS premiered “Feds” in the 9-10 p.m. slot, averaging a 7.8 rating and 12 share. While that is off from what the time period had been averaging in households, it did improve by 9% in adults 18-49 and 10% in adults 25-54, although the show still finished fourth in those categories.

In the 10-11 p.m. hour, CBS premiered “EZ Streets” in its time period with a 7.0/12, which was much better than last fall’s 5.1/9 debut. However, the show still finished third in households behind ABC’s “PrimeTime Live” (10.9/19) and NBC’s “Dateline” 9.8/17.
