United Family Communications has appointed Gustavo Pupo-Mayo the first prexy and CEO of the newly formed company, effective immediately. He will be based in Coral Gables, Fla.
Formed in 1996, UFC is a joint venture between Intl. Family Entertainment and United Intl. Holdings. In his new post, Pupo-Mayo will oversee the launch of two pan-regional Spanish and Portuguese television networks, Family Channel and Casa Club TV, in Latin, Spain and Portugal in July 1997.
“(Gustavo’s) wealth of experience in the Latin American media market will prove an invaluable asset to the com-pany,” said Tim Robertson, prexy and CEO of IFE.
Pupo-Mayo comes to UFC from TeleNoticias, the 24-hour Spanish-language news network launched in 1994 and acquired by CBS in 1996 (when it was subsequently renamed CBS TeleNoticias). He was the network’s founding president.
Prior to launching TeleNoticias, Pupo-Mayo established the news division for the Spanish-language TV network Telemundo Group Inc., where he served as senior VP of news and public affairs.
