Synergy was at work last Friday at Disney as the Mouse House had subsidiary network ABC preempt Friday-night promos for the web’s “TGIF” lineup in favor of the studio’s new release “Jungle 2 Jungle.”
Usually, ABC has a cast member from one of its Friday-night shows host the network’s programming and appear in about six promos throughout the night. However, Disney was apparently concerned about how “Jungle 2 Jungle” would do in its opening week and got ABC to allow star Tim Allen (who, of course, stars in the web’s hit “Home Improvement”) to do promo spots for the movie.
The extra push may have worked because “Jungle 2 Jungle” opened in second place with $12.7 million at the box office.
In spite of the promotion shortfall, ABC vet “Step by Step” still had a solid performance in its return to the net’s lineup.
