NEW ORLEANS – Rebecca Segal, a veteran of the international television scene, has joined the BBC as senior vice president, BBC Program Acquisition USA, effective immediately.
Segal will serve as the U.S. rep for the British pubcaster, working with the London program acquisition department and reporting to June Dromgoole, head of purchased programs.
She will be based in Los Angeles at the Burbank office of BBC Worldwide Americas. The BBC is one of the most important acquirers of top-tier U.S. movies and network series.
Segal has extensive experience in global television, having worked in Los Angeles for several key overseas broadcast outlets. For more than four years she worked for Rupert Murdoch’s British Sky Broadcasting, most recently as VP international, with responsibilities that included BSkyB and other Murdoch ventures such as Star TV in Hong Kong and Vox in Germany. Before that, she held the same title at Australia’s Network Ten, overseeing both programming and program acquisition.
For 10 years Segal operated Segal Associates, providing international marketing guidance to a variety of entertainment companies including ACI, HBO Enterprises and King World Intl.
