Saban Pictures Intl. has announced that it will spend $40 million to acquire and distribute more feature films this year.
Officials from the Los Angeles-based company said it plans to center on “family-oriented” pics as well as “action-oriented, star-driven” films.
“Saban Pictures Intl. has seen a significant increase in demand over the last 12 months,” said Saban Pictures Intl. prexy Stan Golden. “We are satisfied that this increased investment will allow us to further our growth in this dynamic and ever-expanding arena.”
Saban execs said the company’s distrib output will significantly top last year’s lineup of 20 to 25 films. Saban’s core business involves direct-to-video, family and children’s titles.
The company’s titles premiering at the AFM include “Sealed With a Kiss,” a psychological thriller starring C. Thomas Howell, and “Born Bad,” an action drama featuring Corey Feldman and James Remar.
