New Line Cinema has optioned Anthony Bourdaine’s mobster novel “A Bone in the Throat” for Ted Demme to produce and possibly direct, the studio confirmed Friday.
Demme will produce along with Spanky Pictures partner Joel Stillerman. The book will be adapted by screenwriters Stephen Susco and John Weidner.
Novel is a black comedy about a young New York sous chef who wants to become a master chef. But his family would rather he join the family business, which happens to be the mob.
New Line veepees of production Mary Parent and Amy Henkels will oversee the project for the studio. The pitch was made to president of production Michael De Luca by the screen scribes.
Demme, who helmed “The Ref,” also is attached to direct “Blow” for New Line with Denis Leary set to star.
The deal for the scribes was brokered by CAA agent Matt Snyder.
