Madelyn Hammond has joined Daily Variety and Variety as managing director of marketing.
She will be responsible for developing worldwide marketing and communications strategies for the two papers, as well as promotions related to both. She will also oversee the creative services area, special issues, all publicity and corporate communications, special events, trade shows and corporate sponsorships.
Charlie Koones, associate publisher and U.S. publishing director, said, “Variety’s growth curve necessitated the appointment of a marketing expert who’s been successful in all areas of entertainment. Madelyn’s knowledge of the entertainment industry, coupled with her extensive contacts and resources, make her an ideal addition to our management team.”
Hammond most recently was veepee of marketing for Sony Signatures, the licensing and merchandising division of Sony Pictures Entertainment. Among her responsibilities there were establishment and execution of marketing plans for films and TV properties, such as “Men in Black,” “Godzilla” and “I Dream of Jeannie.”
Before that, her jobs included veep of marketing and distribution services for MGM/UA, director of worldwide marketing for Turner Pictures and director of marketing for AMC Theaters.
