Fete makes ‘Liar’ out of U

An estimated 3,000 people took in Tuesday night’s premiere of Universal’s Jim Carrey starrer “Liar, Liar” at the Universal Amphitheatre, with many of the eager crowd filing into the birthday party-themed fete afterward on the Universal Studios lot.

Among the luminaries present were Carrey’s co-stars Swoosie Kurtz, Jennifer Tilly and Cary Elwes; “Liar, Liar” helmer Tom Shadyac; producer Brian Grazer; as well as Seagram topper Edgar Bronfman Jr. and U execs Frank Biondi, Ron Meyer, Casey Silver, Marc Platt, Chris McGurk, Nikki Rocco, Buffy Shutt and Kathy Jones.

The post-premiere bash — replete with hot dog stands and buffets of chili, hamburgers and hot fudge sundaes, in-teractive batting cages and free phone service (for those who just don’t spend enough time on the phones) — at-tracted such notables as producers Joel Silver and Sid Sheinberg, f/x maven Rick Baker, scribe-thesp Carrie Fisher, Penny Marshall, “Friends” Mathew Perry and Lisa Kudrow, Dennis Farina, Julianne Moore, James Woods, Rodney Dangerfield and Lauren Holly.
