CNN is launching its business and financial news channel CNNfn in Latin America on Friday. The launch represents the first time the channel will be distributed internationally.
Carlos Diaz, executive VP of distribution for Turner Broadcasting System Latin America, declined to provide startup subscriber count.
Though TBS Latam has signed carriage agreements in Mexico, the Caribbean and South America, Diaz also declined to indicate how many and where.
CNNfn will broadcast 14 hours of business, market and personal finance news 14 hours per weekday. On weekends and nights, its coverage will be supplemented with programming from CNN Headline News. CNNfn is a production of CNN Financial News.
Programming for now is only in English. Spanish-language content is under consideration, but no specific plans have been made, Diaz told Daily Variety.
Two financial news channels are already available in Latin America. One is from Bloomberg, the other from Televisa. Televisa’s channel, Conexion Financiera, is supported by an agreement with NBC. NBC licenses its programming to the Televisa channel, and Televisa rents production facilities in New Jersey for its U.S. reporting.
