BOMBAY — Indian-born producer Ashok Amritraj said last week that his L.A.-based company, Amritraj Solomon Communications, which he runs in partnership with international TV veteran Michael J. Solomon, is entering India’s mainstream Hindi film production.
At a glittering, dance-till-you-drop dinner celebration, Amritraj welcomed a scintillating mix of stars, fashion models and press to the unveiling of his company’s first Hindi-lingo movie, “Love You Hamesha” (Love You Always).
Kailash Surendranath, a commercials director, will helm, while the lead role in the action love story will be played by newcomer sensation Akshay Kumar, son of former superstar Vinod Khanna; female lead is the glamour-star Sonali Bendre.
” I feel confident, even impelled, to be where all the action is, which is the Hindi box office film,” Amritraj told the guests.
Amritraj has an office in Madras, his home city, and the capital of Tamil Nadu. Some five years ago Amritraj was operating mostly out of L.A., making films for the European and U.S. market. He has fifty-odd features to his credit.
In recent years he has expanded his Madras office, teamed up with Solomon, and begun producing Tamil-language TV series and feature films.
Last year, Amritraj ventured into India-based English-lingo feature filmmaking, producing “Jungle Boy,” now ready for release.
