ABC will replace its freshman series “Clueless” with veteran sitcom “Step by Step” effective Friday, March 7 in the 9:30 slot.

The last original episode of “Clueless” will air Friday. ABC had ordered 18 episodes of the series from Paramount Network Television, and was in a dilemma because it had ordered 22 episodes of “Step by Step” from Warner Bros. Television.

However, with the network losing its leadoff Friday-night sitcom “Family Matters” to CBS next year, the odds are good that “Clueless” could make it to a sophomore season.

So far this season, “Clueless” has averaged a 8.5 rating and 15 share, according to Nielsen
