Two months after he was shown the door at Los Angeles magazine, Michael Caruso has found a new home as editor-in-chief of Details magazine.
Conde Nast editorial director James Truman announced Thursday that Caruso would fill the slot left open when Joe Dolce resigned April 28 after learning that a headhunter was interviewing applicants for his job.
Caruso held the top editorial post at Los Angeles for 15 months before he was fired by Fairchild Publications — the Disney subsidiary that oversees the mag.
“We are delighted to have Michael Caruso join Details as editor-in-chief,” said Truman, who preceded Dolce as editor of the men’s lifestyle mag. “His strong journalistic background along with his sense of style and knowledge of pop culture will take Details to the next level, while retaining the magazine’s trademark edginess and innovations.”
After his dismissal from Los Angeles, Caruso told Daily Variety he was looking to a possible career in the film industry. “I’ve gotten offers from movie studios and I’m pretty excited about that,” Caruso said at the time. “I have pretty good contacts with writers and that’s important to the studios.”
Apparently, the pull of ink and pulp was stronger than that of celluloid and deal memos.
