Billy Crystal has been confirmed as host of the 70th Academy Awards show (Daily Variety, Dec. 18). Event’s producer Gil Cates made the announcement Friday.

It will mark the comedian’s sixth stint as emcee of the Oscarcast. Crystal hosted the show for four consecutive shows beginning in 1990 and then again last year after a three-year hiatus.

“I’m thrilled to be back,” said Crystal. “I guess I’m just a sucker for a free tuxedo.”

Crystal has won three Emmy awards for his writing and hosting of the show.

The 70th Academy Awards presentation will be held Monday, March 23, at L.A.’s Shrine Auditorium and broadcast live on ABC beginning at 6 p.m. on the West Coast.
