MADRID — Kevin Williams, probably Spain’s best-known film sales rep, has struck off on his own, forming Kevin Williams Associates (KWA), a sales company and rights-brokering outfit based out of Madrid.
From 1992, Williams was the forceful head of sales at leading outfit Sogepaq Intl., where he pioneered sales on a post-Almodovar generation of directors such as Julio Medem and Manuel Gomez Pereira.
“KWA will be the only outfit in Spain consistently acquiring local indie titles for theatrical sales abroad,” Williams said. With sales to Spain’s free-to-air nets slowing, Williams said he “aims to take advantage of his Spanish base to ply an increasingly complicated domestic rights market and open up digital sales,” he added.
KWA will also buy occasional films for theatrical release in Spain, and broker co-productions with the Spanish production houses.
In a slew of early deals, KWA will handle European sales on the films of L.A.-based producer Windy City, including its “The Real Thing.” It also will rep sales for Spain on the catalogs of Hong Kong’s Golden Network, Filmexport in Italy, Canada’s S Entertainment and Highpoint in the U.K.
Its small but eclectic package of titles for TV and all-rights sales abroad includes Spain’s Colombian-set thriller “Todo esta oscuro,” black comedy “Dame Algo,” art pic “Tren de Sombras,” the B&W English-lingo “Hotel Room” and France’s “Passage des hommes livres.”
