Thewlis set for Irish pic ‘Jack’

David Thewlis, who ran “Naked” through London, will hop to Ireland to star in “Divorcing Jack,” an indie pic from executive producers Nik Powell and Stephen Woolley, sources said Tuesday.

Pic begins shooting in August in Belfast, Ireland.

Thewlis plays a journalist for a Belfast evening paper who gets caught up in a political minefield after he cheats on his wife for one night with a beautiful student. When the student is murdered, the journalist becomes the prime suspect.

David Caffrey is helming the script, which is adapted by Colin Bateman from his novel of the same name.

Robert Cooper is producing. Cooper last produced the Anthony Minghella pic “Truly, Madly, Deeply.”

Powell and Woolley were responsible for “The Crying Game.”

Thewlis next will be seen opposite Brad Pitt and B.D. Wong in TriStar Pictures’ “Seven Years in Tibet.” He recently starred in “Total Eclipse” opposite Leonardo DiCaprio.

His deal was brokered by ICM’s Steve Dontanville and Michael Forster.
