Survey says plexes will fuel Brit tics

LONDON – The U.K.’s annual cinema admissions are on course to reach 180 million by the year 2000, according to a report from exhibition analyst Dodona Research.

That compares with the 1996 figure of around 130 million. The sharp predicted increase depends on theater owners carrying out their aggressive plans to build more than 600 multiplex screens in the U.K. by the end of the century.

At the moment, the U.K. has 900 multiplex screens, along with another 1,350 screens in traditional city center sites.
