Sabler goes ‘Inbred’ with spec script pact

Motion Picture Corp. of America co-founder Steve Stabler has optioned the feature spec script “Inbred Jed, Plane Stupid,” by Butch and Ben McCain and Steve Brasfield.

The action-comedy tells the story of a simpleton, an aspiring cropduster, who saves Texas from a swarm of killer bees.

The McCain brothers are attached as producers along with Stabler. In addition to screenwriting, the multi-hyphenated McCains have worked as morning TV talkshow hosts, country musicians and series and commercial thesps. They created the Jed character in their standup comedy act.

Stabler, along with former MPCA partner Brad Krevoy, produced dozens of feature films including “Dumb and Dumber,” “Beverly Hills Ninja” and “Kingpin.”

As actors, the McCains appeared in two MPCA-produced features, “Biodome” and “Midnight Blue,” as well as numerous TV series.

Last year, director/producer Dick Lowry (“Last Stand at Sabre River”) optioned the McCain/Brasfield script “Mainstreet After Midnight.”

The McCains’ deal was negotiated by their attorney, Bill Jacobson of Browning, Jacobson & Klein.
