Helmer-producer-actor Rob Reiner has signed with ICM, where he will be repped by agency president and co-CEO Jim Wiatt.
Reiner left CAA, where he had been one of the percenter’s original clients and had been repped by co-founder Michael Ovitz. Since Ovitz’s departure from the agency, Reiner was represented for acting only by Jane Sindell, who recently announced her departure from the agency (Daily Variety, Nov. 3).
ICM will represent Reiner — who directs exclusively for Castle Rock Entertainment, the production banner of which he is a principal and co-founder — for acting, but also will work to package film projects for him to direct.
Reiner — who has helmed such features as “Stand by Me,” “When Harry Met Sally,” “Misery” and “A Few Good Men” — has acted in numerous TV and feature films, becoming a household name for his Emmy Award-winning portrayal of Michael “Meathead” Stivic, the son-in-law of Archie Bunker in the hit series “All in the Family.”
Among his screen acting credits are “The First Wives Club,” ” Bullets Over Broadway,” “Sleepless in Seattle” and the upcoming “Primary Colors.”
ICM also will represent the “I Am Your Child” public awareness campaign founded by Reiner, his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, and ICM’s Ellen Gilbert.”I Am Your Child” is a coalition of entertainment mavens, children’s orgs, elected officials, health professionals, foundations and corpo-rations working toward providing families with young children the information, resources and services they require.
The project was initiated after a breakthrough in brain research that chronicled the significance of the first three years of a child’s development.
ICM will work with Reiner to ex-pand the org’s message into all media outlets, including public service announcements, videos and CD-ROMs. The agency will alsolaunch a series of seminars for agents, clients, industry execs and corporate clients to educate them about the group’s goals and to encourage their participation.
Rosie O’Donnell is among the cli-ents who have agreed to work with the campaign in a number of creative ventures, including developing mate-rials on high-quality child care.
“We are thrilled to be able to work with Rob on this innovative cam-paign,” Wiatt said. “We share his passion for this project and firmly believe in the incredible impact ‘I Am Your Child’ can have on all of our futures. We plan to utilize our industry presence to expand awareness and gather additional support for the campaign.”
