Gotham-based actress Gretchen Mol has signed on for the lead female role in John Dahl’s “Rounders” for Miramax, set to start lensing this week in New York.
Mol will play opposite stars Matt Damon and Ed Norton. Story follows the trials of a reformed gambling addict (Damon) who falls back into the world of high-stakes underground poker to help a recently paroled pal (Norton) pay off debts to loan sharks.
Pic is being produced by Spanky Pictures partners Ted Demme and Joel Stillerman. Script is by Brian Koppelman and David Levien.
Mol is likely to become an increasingly familiar face to moviegoers. She’ll appear in Woody Allen’s upcoming film, currently titled “Celebrity,” and will star opposite Jude Law in MGM’s “Music From Another Room,” due out in April.
Mol’s previous film credits include Abel Ferrara’s “The Funeral” and Stephen Kay’s “The Last Time I Committed Suicide,” which bowed at the Sundance festival this year.
Mol is repped by the Gersh Agency’s Larry Taube and Stephen Hirsh, and is managed by Estelle Lasher.
