Thesp Kevin Gage has signed on to topline “Rune,” a gruesome thriller from Shooting Gallery, the Gotham indie production company confirmed Thursday.
Gage stars as a rural policeman whose daughter is kidnapped by a sadistic serial killer who uses the Internet to lure young girls into his clutches.
“Rune” is set to start shooting next week on location in Colorado Springs.
Heavy metal rocker Dee Snider, who formerly fronted headbanger band Twisted Sister, wrote the screenplay and will play the villain.
It’s the first feature for director John Pieplow, who is known for his work helming commercials and theater.
Elizabeth Pena and Brett Harrelson also star. Pic, budged at about $2 million, previously went under the title “Helltown.” Dave Bushell will produce. Shooting Gallery CEO Larry Meistrich is exec producer.
Gage currently can be seen in “G.I. Jane.” He recently wrapped the Joel Silver/Richard Donner production “Doubletap” for HBO, and Interlight’s “Recoil,” playing opposite Mickey Rourke. He also appeared in “Con Air” and in last year’s “Heat.”
Gage’s deal was negotiated by his manager Lena Rocklin of Rocklin Management, and attorney David Feldman of Bloom, Hergott, Diemer and Klein.
Shooting Gallery produced Billy Bob Thornton’s Oscar-winning “Sling Blade.”
