Beresford, Par playing ‘Jeopardy’

Bruce Beresford, who last directed the drama “Paradise Road,” will next step behind the camera for Paramount Pictures’ thriller “Double Jeopardy” for producer Leonard Goldberg, sources said.

The picture will get a rewrite before rolling this fall. The target start date is November.

Paramount picked up the project as a pitch for $260,000 against $500,000 two years ago for Goldberg, with Luis Mandoki aboard to direct and produce. Douglas Cook and David Weisberg scripted the story about a man who fakes his death and sets his wife up as the killer in an insurance policy scam. After serving eight years in prison, she makes it her mission to hunt him down.

Beresford’s credits include the Academy Award-winning “Driving Miss Daisy,” “A Good Man in Africa,” “Silent Fall” and “Tender Mercies.” Endeavor’s Steve Rabineau reps Beresford.
