The Writers Guild of America West’s board of directors has appointed a three-member committee to investigate allegations of misconduct during the guild’s Sept. 18 board and officer elections.
The WGAW board has appointed Christopher Knopf (chairman), John Gay and Frank Tarloff to the committee. Babs Greyhosky and Jim Buchanan will serve as alternates.
On Oct. 17, nearly 100 WGAW members signed a complaint with the Department of Labor, alleging the elections were conducted illegally (Daily Variety, Oct. 17). The department later delayed action, citing federal statutes that dictate unions’ obligation to exhaust internal remedies before authorities begin an investigation.
The WGAW committee is expected to complete its internal investigation by early January.
