The National Hispanic Media Coalition will announce today that it has filed petitions with the Federal Communications Commission to deny the license renewal applications of 10 Southern California radio stations, including KLSX-FM and Disney-owned ABC Radio stations KABC-AM, KTZN-AM and KLOS-FM.
The NHMC has skedded a press conference for 11 a.m. at the Walt Disney Co. headquarters in Burbank, with NHMC national chair Alex Nogales continuing to target Disney for alleged discrimination against Latinos in its hiring practices companywide.
Nogales charged Monday that Disney’s three L.A. stations are out of compliance with FCC regulations in regard to the percentage of Latinos in its work force. KLSX is on the list due to alleged obscenity on Howard Stern’s syndicated morning show.
NHMC is demanding that Disney provide full ethnic disclosure of its work force composition, as well as hire a VP in charge of labor, plan improvements in hiring Latinos in key management and creative posts and include Latino companies in its procurement contracts.
Disney had no immediate comment Monday concerning the charges.
