Fiorini gets prison term

MILAN — Controversial Italian businessman Florio Fiorini, the former owner of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer with partner Giancarlo Parretti, was formally sentenced Friday in Milan to eight years and seven months in jail for the bankruptcy of Sasea.

Sasea, a Swiss-based financial company led and owned by Fiorini, was involved in the acquisition of MGM and in a series of judicial fights with French bank Credit Lyonnais, former partner of Fiorini in the MGM deal.

Fiorini is already in jail. He was imprisoned in 1991 in Switzerland, and later moved to Italy.
