UNION, S.C. — The Walt Disney Co. announced Monday that it will build a distribution center near Jonesville that will employ 300 people when it opens in about a year.
The 500,000-square-foot center will replace two existing facilities in Memphis, Tenn., said Mike Tracy, senior vice president and general manager of Disney Catalog.
Disney looked at six locations around the country before deciding on Jonesville, Tracy said.
“Disney and Union County have really come together … bringing to life a distribution center for the 21st century that will shape the future of Disney direct marketing and be a partner with all of the people of Union,” Tracy said.
Union County is getting nearly as many jobs with the Disney announcement as it gained in all of 1996, said commerce secretary Robert V. Royall Jr. Union County announced 357 new jobs and in 1995 it announced 301 new jobs.
