‘JERRY’-RIGGED PROPOSAL

NEW YORK – While filmmakers usually get strong responses at Hollywood premieres, “Jerry Maguire” director Cameron Crowe got an unusually strong sense that he’d made an emotionally moving movie. As soon as the lights went up at the film’s Hollywood premiere on Tuesday, Adam Gibgot, a writer-producer with a producing deal at Davis Entertainment, got on his knees and proposed marriage to his girlfriend, Jennifer Shankman, vice president of production at Disney-based Tapestry Films.

Gibgot said that when he arrived at the premiere, marriage was the furthest thing from his mind. Perhaps that explains why he didn’t have a ring with him. He was so moved by the relationship between the characters played by Tom Cruise and Renee Zellweger that he suddenly decided to make his move.

“I watched the movie, and found myself suddenly thinking about it,” Gibgot said. “My heart started pounding and I thought, this woman completes me.” Amid a shocked group of onlookers, Shankman said yes, and they were both embraced by Crowe. They’ve set a May 30 wedding date. Gibgot has already set up a film about his diamond-dealer father called “Flawless,” so Shankman should be sporting a serious rock shortly.
