Visual effects house Digital Domain is slated to be the site of a gathering on Sunday for investors in New Los Angeles Marketing Partnership.
The org, a partnership of area municipalities and private companies, was set up to promote what exec director Regina Birdsell called “the positive facts about L.A. People are setting up interesting business ventures here and making a lot of money. L.A. is about a lot more than man-made disasters, natural disasters and trials.”
L.A. mayor Richard Riordan is slated to address the crowd at Sunday’s DD event.
Birdsell acknowledged that the entertainment industry is already aware of the business opportunities in L.A. Other industries, such as legal, banking, utilities and health care, are heavily represented on NEW LAMP’s roster of investors.
The only major studio that’s now an investor in NEW LAMP is Fox. However, Birdsell said she expects others to become involved with the group during the coming year.
Digital Domain was chosen as the site for Sunday’s bash because it exemplifies the kind of business NEW LAMP hopes to show off.
The company was founded in 1993 by Scott Ross, James Cameron and Stan Winston in partnership with IBM. Cox Enterprises became a strategic partner earlier this year.
“It represents a convergence of the creative and corporate communities, which is where the job opportunities are going to be as we head into the next century,” Birdsell said.
