IA OKs L.A.-area vid pact

Members of the industry’s major below-the-line union have ratified a new contract covering videotape production.

The four-year agreement between producers and the Intl. Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees provides three 3% increases to scale wages. The new contract was passed by 87.4% of the vote. It applies to members in the Los Angeles area.

The contract also includes an increase in the producers’ contributions to individual account plans. In addition to the current payment of 30.5¢ per hour, producers will contribute 1% of salaries on contract scale rates starting retroactively to Sept. 29, 1996; 2% effective May 31, 1998; and 3% starting Aug. 1, 1999. The contract expires Sept. 30, 2000.

The contract’s increases are similar to those in a basic agreement covering film and TV production in the L.A. area. It was passed by membership last spring.
