Acad bows poster for 69th Oscars

Academy Award-winner Arnold Schwartzman will do double duty as both the designer of the commemorative poster and the producer of the theatrical trailer for the 69th Academy Awards Presentation.

Schwartzman’s poster features the titles of all 68 picture winners in the shape of an Oscar statuette.

“I think of my design for this year’s poster as a graphic equation,” Schwartzman said. “Sixty-eight Oscar nights equal one Oscar knight.”

In designing the poster, Schwartzman takes over from his friend and mentor, the late Saul Bass, who created the last five posters.

The Oscar trailer will feature the nominees for actor, actress and picture. More than 8,000 prints of the one-minute promo will ship to theaters in early March.

Schwartzman, who won an Oscar for the 1981 docu “Genocide,” is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences documentary awards executive committee. He is also co-chairman of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts, L.A.
