The new theater is scheduled to open with an eight-week run of the U.S. premiere of “Definitely Doris: The Music of Doris Day,” previewing Sept. 24 and opening Oct. 2.
Formerly a twin movie house, the renovated 57 Theater has new seats, a proscenium stage, upgraded sound and light systems, and a new lobby with full bar. The theater will operate as a four-wall rental house. Although the new theater itself is not a union house, the opening attraction is an Equity production.
Developed in London, the “Definitely Doris” revue was written by Patty Carver and Leo Carusone and includes 40 Day songs and is described as a “nostalgic, satiric and comic musical journey.” The cast of eight will be directed by Jerry Goehring with musical supervision by Carusone. Tickets are $ 23 to $ 27.
