Willis tapes pro-police PSA

GOOD MORNING: Bruce Willis, also known as N.Y. police Lt. John McClane of “Die Hard With a Vengeance” and previous “Die Hards,” taped a TV spot for the NYPD — and possibly for use by other cities’ police departments — in which Willis exhorts civilians, “When you see a policeman, walk up to him and say, ‘Thank you.’ ” Among those on hand at the Westwood Village preem to say “thank you” to Willis (and the Fox film troupe?) was former L.A. police chief Daryl Gates, wearing the blue ribbon’d lapel pin showing support for police … Willis winged out from L.A. Friday to show support for servicemen in the Korean DMZ by playing a concert for ’em with his group, the Accelerators. Willis had been with his mom, sister and two brothers for the Mann’s Chinese Theatre forecourt festivities, the pic’s Village preem, then a small supper party for family-friends at the Pane e Vino restaurant in which he’s an investor. Willis told me he hopes to continue to mix his pix with small, supporting roles …”Die Hard” director-producer John McTiernan said he segues into a smaller pic, “Amanda,” wearing exec producer’s hat while wife Donna Dubrow produces the story of a young boy and his horse (the horse is named Amanda). It was Dubrow who originally found the “Simon Says” story that evolved into the current “Die Hard” and gave it to husband McTiernan … Exec producer Andy Vajna, also readying the June 30 release of his Sylvester Stallone starrer “Judge Dredd,” told me he will definitely start “Evita” in August with Alan Parker directing Madonna and Antonio Banderas … The turnout for the “Die Hard” preem was so large, an overflow from the Village and Bruin theaters segued over to the Mann Westwood fourplex. Among the celebs on hand, Quentin Tarantino, who apologized for being so intense that evening, later explaining he’s getting in character for his next pic, “From Dusk Till Dawn,” in which he plays — a psycho killer. I know he’s only kidding. I hope … Other celebs (?) on hand at the preem, Kato Kaelin, who was besieged by TV crews for clever quotes and double entendres. Ah, this too is showbiz.
